Out of Home Never Looked So Good - April

Each month, we celebrate the bold creatives and clients from Aotearoa and around the world who have embraced and amplified the potential of Out of Home advertising through their attention-grabbing campaigns.

We hope you'll find inspiration in the examples we've handpicked, both locally and internationally, demonstrating how classic and digital Out of Home formats have been ingeniously utilised to deliver truly captivating campaigns. Perhaps one of these will ignite your next brilliant creative idea.

We're excited to see your creativity in action. Feel free to share your campaign with us or directly enter it into our OOHMAA Awards - The Speccies - Q2 entries open on 17th June 2024.

McDONALD’S

Aotearoa:  McDonald’s NZ, DDB Group Aotearoa and OMD New Zealand joined forces with LUMO to hack their network of digital billboards by utilising a media space that was hiding in plain sight all along – the little screen at the bottom of every digital billboard that displays the LUMO logo.

The challenge from Macca’s to the team at DDB was to create a campaign that gets Kiwis adding more to their meals, in a way that resonated with McDonald’s fans.

Says Gary Steele, chief creative officer at DDB Group Aotearoa: “Stand at the counter of your local Macca’s and you’ll hear a chorus of customers saying ‘aaaaaaaaaand aaaaa….’ as they stare up at the menu board and decide which little treat to add to their go-to order. That was the very human moment that got us excited.” And Macca’s Ad-Ons was born.

PRIME VIDEO & AMAZON STUDIOS - FALLOUT

Aotearoa: The famous video game to Prime Video’s TV adaptation of ‘Fallout’ had a clear objective and challenge; play with the heritage but don’t pigeonhole as “only for gamers”.  Out of Home was a fundamental channel to immerse audiences in the chaos, entertainment, vibrancy, and bombastic world of this anticipated release. A vault-style takeover of Wellington’s train-to-bus station underpass transported pedestrians to the vaults seen in the series, with supporting formats in the market that helped position the series as one of Prime Video’s tentpole releases of the year.

SPEC SAVERS

Scotland: Specsavers’ latest Out of Home stunt in Edinburgh doesn’t even need to feature their tagline. Scots walking along Edinburgh’s Castle Street, were stunned as they saw a Specsavers’ branded van, with its butt suspended in the air by a bollard. Beside it, a perfectly placed red sign warning ‘CAUTION. AUTOMATIC BOLLARDS IN OPERATION. NO PARKING’. This stunt is the newest addition to Specsavers latest ‘Should’ve Gone to Specsavers’ (SGTS) campaign that’s been live since February 2024.
